Wait, My Skin Type Can Change?

Our founder and beauty aesthetician, Mdm Aishah, shares more about what she’s learned.

Your skin type can change based on various factors, such as environmental, hormonal and health changes as years pass, though it may be temporary. It’s important to adjust your skincare routine once you see a change in your skin type!

So, What Causes My Skin Type To Change?

A Change In Environment

Your skin type can change based on where you live or work. If you’re suddenly in a cold and dry environment (such as being in an air-conditioned work place for long hours) even though you swear you have oily skin, you may notice that your skin can get drier because of the location you’re in.

If you’re in a humid and hot environment, parts of your skin can also be oily or greasy. Places with lots of pollution, or smoking, can also irritate and age your skin further.

The Food You’re Eating

We all know that an unbalanced diet could lead to breakouts with oily skin. Your skin could be oilier or drier, depending on whether you’re drinking enough as well!

Stress, Pregnancy, Menopause, Age and Hormones

Most of the time, it’s hormonal changes that’s switching up your skin type.

If your skin changes from dry to oily, it could be because you’re under a lot of stress, where your skin can produce more oil and lead you to breakouts. Pregnancy and menopause can also cause a change in your skin such as acne, dull or dry patches. As you grow older, you may notice a change in skin texture, tone and firmness, such as your skin becoming dry, mature and dull.

Using The Wrong Products

If you’re using the wrong skincare or make-up products, you could also be hurting your skin more! Make-up can clog your pores if you don’t clean your skin thoroughly at the end of the day.

As for skincare, the products you’ve used for years might not work on your skin anymore as your skin evolves over time. For example, if you have oily skin and use products that dry your face further, more breakouts can happen.

What Do I Do If My Skin Type Changes?

It’s important to adjust your skincare routine according to your current skin type, if not your skin might face irritations.

  • Switch your products, ensure they are gentle and hydrating on your skin.

  • Exfoliate once a week to remove dead skin cells so it allows your moisturisers to absorb better.

  • If you’re unsure what your skin type is, take a quiz or get in touch with a skin professional to find out more.

Here at Aura Nur, we offer a skin analysis before giving any facial treatments. First-time customers will also get a free skin analysis any time if you book a date with us. We’ll advise on what type of products to use, and which skincare routine is the best for you.
